Le Nguyen Paul (An Giang) smashed the Games record in men’s 50 m freestyle, Pham Thanh Bao (Ben Tre) set a new record in men’s 100m breaststroke and Nguyen Huy Hoang (Quang Binh) took the new record in men’s 1,500m freestyle. Meanwhile, decorated swimmer Anh Vien won double golds for the Army team in women’s 50m and 400m freestyle.
In other events yesterday, shooter Nguyen Duy Hoang broke a record of men’s 50 m rifle three positions to win a gold medal for the Army team, while Hanoi won two gold medals in wrestling by Duong Hong Phuc (men’s 71kg) and Nguyen Ba Son (men’s 75kg).
Hanoi’s young golfers also won all four golds in four final events on Sunday, while Ho Chi Minh City cyclists dominated in the 152km road race claiming golds in both men’s single and team events.
