Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam: Nguyen Thao My has added another chapter to her remarkable run of success in the Faldo Series Vietnam Championship.

Underlining her standing as one of her country’s most talented young golfers, My upstaged her rivals in the ninth edition of the event, the sixth leg of the record-breaking 2016-17 Faldo Series Asia season.

It was the third year in succession that the 18-year-old from Hanoi has topped the standings in the tournament that was staged in conjunction with the inaugural Vietnam Junior Open.

Whereas her two previous triumphs had come at the Nick Faldo-designed Laguna Lang Co course near Danang, her latest victory was achieved at The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip, a Golf Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

Displaying an admirable consistency, My posted rounds of 70, 74 and 71 for a three-day aggregate of one-under-par 215.

Now the teenager can look forward to a return to the Laguna Lang Co venue next March where she will spearhead the Vietnamese challenge in the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Faldo.

Six-time Major champion Faldo, Britain’s most successful ever golfer, said: “Congratulations to Nguyen Thao My on retaining her title at the Faldo Series Vietnam Championship.

“I’ve followed her progress at the last two Faldo Series Asia Grand Finals and have been impressed with how her game is developing.

“With the Grand Final moving to Vietnam for the first time this season, it would be wonderful to have My challenging for top female honours next March.”

Also securing spots in the Grand Final were Anthony Truong Chi Quan (Boys’ Under-21 champion), Nguyen Phuong Toan (Boys’ Under-21 runner-up) and Nguyen Hung Dung (Boys’ Under-15 champion).

Playing at his home course, Truong, Vietnam’s top-rated amateur, finished 11 strokes clear of his closest challenger and will relish the opportunity to improve on his performance in the 10th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at China’s Mission Hills where he placed 11th in the Boys’ Under-18 category.

Supported by The R&A and endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, the 2016-17 Faldo Series Asia campaign stretches over 11 months.

As well as two events in China, India and Thailand, championships will be staged in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
