Hanoi, December 18 — Sky Lake Golf and Lake Resort on Hanoi’s south-west fringe has been named best championship course in Vietnam for 2015, following previous awards as the country’s most challenging course in 2012/2013 and being included among the top five courses in Vietnam last year.

The most recent award, sanctioned by Vietnam Golf Magazine, affirms the 36-hole complex for which IMG Golf provides management consulting services as one of Asia’s best golf experiences.

Sky Lake’s two previous awards – being named among the top five golf courses in Vietnam and judged most challenging course in the country – were made by the Vietnam Tourism Association and Vietnam Golf Magazine respectively.

Opening the new Sky Course to public access earlier this year has allowed visitors to Hanoi and north Vietnam the opportunity to enjoy the layout that features sweeping vistas of the Van Son mountains and dramatic elevation changes, especially on the par-4 15th hole.

Named Dien Bien Phu after a famous battle between Vietnam and France in 1954 that resulted in France’s eventual withdrawal from Indochina, the 15th fairway rises to a green on the highest point of the course, with views of the surrounding countryside and back to Hanoi. It provides evidence of acclaimed golf course designer Ahn Moon Hwan’s ability to use natural landscapes to maximum advantage.

Playing 7311 yards (6685 metres) from the back tees, the Sky Course is a solid test for better players, but is more forgiving from the forward tees.
Sky Lake’s general manager, Tim Haddon, says the course’s award of best championship course in Vietnam affirms a determination to present 36 holes of the best championship golf in the country.

“Hosting the Vietnam National Open last month was a chance for Sky Lake to showcase the public-access Sky Course, which proved itself as an equal challenge to the existing Lake Course,” he said.

“We had great feedback from the players as well as amateur visitors who love the routing of the course, its peaceful ambience and wonderful scenery.”
Sky Lake Golf and Lake Resort has teamed with Crowne Plaza West Hanoi in offering a stay-and-play package for visitors to Hanoi. From VND3,307,500 plus taxes (approx. USD150) guests can enjoy accommodation for two adults, breakfast, internet access, green fee and caddie fee for one player at Sky Lake, which is just 50 minutes’ drive from the hotel.
