Vietnam’s Hue and Da Nang Promote Their Muslim-Friendly Tourism to Malaysian Visitors

On August 26, Hue and Da Nang, the central cities, actively marketed their tourism packages in Kuala Lumpur with a view to encouraging more Malaysian tourists, especially Muslim pilgrims, to visit. The activity was part of their continued bid to boost the tourism industry by responding to the increasing demand for Muslim-friendly holidays.

In her speech during the event, Tran Thi Hoai Tram, Director of Hue City’s Department of Tourism, mentioned Malaysia as among the key markets of the central region of Vietnam. Hue and Da Nang received some 230,000 Malaysian tourists in 2024, while 140,000 visited them in the first half of 2025. Tram underscored that proactive efforts played a significant part in the development of Muslim-friendly surroundings, including Halal certification of restaurants in the area and enhanced services in hotels and resorts to be able to handle Muslim guests’ needs.

Highlighting the Appeal of Central Vietnam to Malaysian Tourists

The central region of Vietnam, with its rich cultural heritage, vibrant festivals, and diverse experiences, has become an attractive destination for Malaysian tourists. Tram noted that Hue and Da Nang offer a combination of UNESCO-listed heritage sites, scenic landscapes, and Muslim-friendly services, making them ideal twin destinations for Malaysian travelers seeking cultural exploration and relaxation.

Phua Tai Neng, Secretary General of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), echoed this sentiment, praising the region’s appeal. He emphasized that central Vietnam offers an impressive range of experiences, from world-class heritage sites to beautiful beaches, distinctive cuisine, and top-tier golf courses. Neng also commended Vietnam’s continuous efforts to provide services tailored to Muslim tourists, calling for more robust promotion campaigns to attract even more visitors from Malaysia.

Strengthening Cooperation and Promoting Air Connectivity

Le Phu Cuong, Trade Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, highlighted the geographical advantages of the central region, noting its proximity to Malaysia and the availability of direct flights between the two countries. Cuong pointed out that such factors make it easier for Malaysian tourists to visit Hue and Da Nang, and underscored the importance of expanding air connectivity between Vietnam and Malaysia.

Cuong also proposed three key areas for cooperation to further develop the tourism relationship: enhancing air connectivity, creating tailored tourism products like Halal food offerings, and strengthening business partnerships between Vietnamese and Malaysian travel companies. These efforts, Cuong believes, will help sustain the growing interest in the central region of Vietnam as a destination for Malaysian tourists.

Vietnam’s Growing Appeal as a Cultural, Heritage, and Muslim-Friendly Destination

Vietnam’s tourism industry has seen remarkable growth, positioning the country as a key cultural and heritage destination in Southeast Asia. Known for its rich history and UNESCO World Heritage sites like Hoi An and My Son, Vietnam offers an immersive experience for travelers. Recently, Vietnam has increasingly catered to Muslim-friendly tourism, with many hotels and restaurants earning Halal certification. The country’s diverse offerings, including Halal dining, prayer facilities, and Muslim-friendly hotels, make it an attractive option for Muslim travelers of Malaysia. The government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while meeting the needs of international visitors further boosts its appeal.

Vietnam’s Expanding Tourism Infrastructure and Focus on Muslim-Friendly Travel

Vietnam has made significant investments in its tourism infrastructure, ensuring it remains a top destination for global travelers. The country has developed modern airports, improved road networks, and expanded luxury resorts to cater to a growing demand for high-end travel. Alongside this, Vietnam has increasingly focused on making its tourism sector Muslim-friendly by offering Halal food, prayer spaces, and Muslim-friendly services for Malaysian tourists in key cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. These efforts to accommodate Muslim tourists, along with initiatives for eco-tourism and wellness retreats, make Vietnam a versatile destination for a broader range of travelers.

A Promising Future for Vietnam’s Hue and Da Nang Tourism

Promotion of Hue and Da Nang as Muslim-friendly destinations is one step towards tapping into the growing demand from Malaysian tourists, who are drawn to the region’s rich cultural heritage and world-class tourism experience. With keen endorsement from both the Vietnamese government and the tourism sector, the central part of Vietnam is set to become one of the leading holiday spots for tourists looking for both cultural discovery and relaxation as well as meeting the specific requirements of Muslim travelers.
