International Golf Media Gives FLC Quy Nhon ‘Thumbs Up’

Quy Nhon, Vietnam, October 6 — The first international media visit to FLC Quy Nhon Golf Links has re-affirmed the Nicklaus Design course and integrated resort in central Vietnam as Asia’s most stunning new golf destination.

Fifteen media from six Asian countries – all of which are expected to be important source markets for FLC Luxury Resort on Nhon Ly island near Quy Nhon – gave a unanimous thumbs-up to the experience.

With two distinctly different “nines”, FLC Quy Nhon Golf Links begins with scenic mountainside holes meandering among native casuarinas and exposed sandy waste areas and ends spectacularly, playing towards and alongside the rolling surf of the East Sea.

Experienced golf writers from Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea agreed they were surprised and impressed the resort with a 500-room hotel, 90 villas, spa and convention centres and a world-class golf course had been developed in only 15 months.

“In June last year there was nothing here,” explained FLC Golf Director, Kelly Cherkowski, as the media were shown around the resort. “Now we have one of the great golf destinations in South East Asia.”

By the end of this year, a second course – designed by acclaimed golf architecture firm Schmidt-Curley – will open in a mountain setting above the resort.

“This will make Quy Nhon even more appealing for visitors wishing to stay several days and play multiple rounds of golf,” Kelly Cherkowski added.

The all-Platinum paspalum course is in perfect condition and offers an enjoyable experience with typical Nicklaus Deisgn bunkering and numerous accentuated undulating greens.

In a further endorsement of the resort’s appeal, more than 700 golfers participated in the inaugural FLC Golf Championships, held over three days last weekend.

Mr Luu Duc Quang, the chairman of Biscom, the business unit that manages the golf interests of publicly-listed FLC Group, was named last month by Golf Inc. as one of the 20 most powerful people in golf.

FLC Group is building, or will soon begin developing, other golf resorts at Halong Bay, Haiphong and Quang Binh in northern Vietnam, while another complex opened last year at Sam Son on the East Sea coast south-east of Hanoi.
