Singapore: Steve Shepherdson, Senior Design Associate for IMG, has been awarded membership of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA).

The ASGCA is the world’s leading organisation for golf course architects. Membership to this exclusive group signifies the highest recognition of an architect’s work. Current members include Pete Dye, Tom Fazio and Jack Nicklaus.

Since joining IMG in 1994, Shepherdson has worked on projects in many countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Mauritius, Vietnam, China, India, Philippines, Korea, Cambodia, Kazakhstan and Australia.

As a key member of IMG’s golf course design team, he has worked closely with several high profile Signature designers such as Colin Montgomerie, Ian Woosnam and Annika Sorenstam.

“This is a great achievement for Steve, who is now one of a very elite group of ASGCA members based full time in Asia and dedicated to the region. He has been involved in over 80 design projects for IMG over the years, and we look forward to his continued commitment and dedication to our design business,” said Paul Burley, Senior Vice President, IMG Golf Course Services, an Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

IMG has designed some of the most prominent courses in Asia and continues to add new projects to its portfolio, particularly in Vietnam where it leads the way in the number of courses open for play or under development.

Candidates for Associate Membership in the ASGCA complete a rigorous, multi-phase application process that includes peer review of four completed courses, discussions with project owners and a personal interview to assess the candidate’s professional capabilities.

Shepherdson was one of six new Associate Members added to the ASGCA ranks at its 72nd annual meeting in Houston. The elections keep the number of ASGCA members who practice around the world to nearly 180.
