Tien Minh downs Malaysia Zulkiffli to win Sydney title


Top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh emerged triumphant at the 2015 Sydney International after handily defeating Malaysian rival Zulfadli Zulkiffli 2-0 in the final round.

Zulkiffli was seeded No1 going into the tournament and the biggest rival of Tien Minh competing at it.

This is the first title for Tien Minh this year, which will help the in his bid for a ticket to the 2016 Olympics.

Hundreds of tennis players to compete in Viet Nam Open

More than 160 players will participate in the Viet Nam Open, scheduled to be held at the Lan Anh Tennis Club in HCM City from October 10 to 18.

Speaking at a press conference on September 22, Viet Nam Tennis Federation General Secretary Nguyen Quoc Ky said the tournament would attract some top international tennis professionals such as Marcel Granollers (81st in the ATP rankings) and James Duckworth (96th), and players in the top 300 rankings such as Lee Duck Hee, Daniel Nguyen, Luke Saville and Jimmy Wang.

Two Vietnamese players Ly Hoang Nam (1036th) and Nguyen Hoang Thien have earned wild cards to compete in the event’s main round.

The tournament, which is part of the ATP Challenger Tour, will award players a total bonus of US$50,000.

It will be a good opportunity for Vietnamese tennis players to hone their skills with world-class competition. 

Golfers compete for berths in amateur world championship

The Viet Nam’s TPBank World Amateur Golfers Championship’s final will be held on October 24, at the Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort, in Vinh Phuc Province.

The final on October 3, at the Dai Lai Star Golf & Country Club in Vinh Phuc, will see participants who advanced from the Southern zone qualification, which kicked off today at the HCM City’s Vietnam Golf and Country Club and the Northern Zone.

A squad of the five best golfers from the final will take part in the world final round, the largest global amateur golf tournament, in Belek Antalya, Turkey, from November 28 to December 5.

Teams from over 40 countries are represented at the competition.
