HANOI, July 9 (Xinhua) — The 2019 Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship will be held in Vietnam’s northern Vinh Phuc province from July 24 to 27, with participants from 12 countries and regions, the Vietnam Golf Association said on Tuesday.

A total of 156 golfers from Brunei, Cambodia, China’s Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam will compete across four categories of the four-day tournament.

The tournament is for golfers to prepare for the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games later this year in the Philippines, the association said, adding that the Vietnamese team is targeting a third place finish.

First held in Malaysia in 1961, the Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship is the biggest amateur golf event in Southeast Asia.
