Nieto wins sixth stage of Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang Cup 2018

Spanish pro cyclist Edgar Nieto of Ynghua Đồng Nai won the sixth stage of the 27th National Cycling Open – Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang Cup on Thursday.

Nieto triumphed in the 31.5km race of 21 laps around Hòa Bình avenue of Cần Thơ City with a time of 41.21, followed by Nguyễn Thành Tâm, Mai Nguyễn Hưng, Nguyễn Trường Tài, Lê Nguyệt Minh of VUS Hồ Chí Minh City and Sarda Perz Javier of Tập Đoàn Lộc Trời.

Trịnh Đức Tâm from Tập Đoàn Lộc Trời retained the yellow jersey with the best overall time of 13:56.33, followed by Hưng, who held the green jersey with 106 points, and Tài.

In the team rankings, VUS HCM City continued to lead with the best overall time of 41:51.20, followed by Tập đoàn Lộc Trời and Domesco Đồng Tháp.

Today, cyclists will compete in the seventh stage from Cần Thơ City to Cà Mau City, a distance of 173km.

The 19th Swing for Life charity golf tournament will officially tee off at the Việt Nam Golf and Country Club in Hồ Chí Minh City on August 30. 

The tournament is being co-organised by the Sài Gòn Golf Association, Hoa Việt Joint Venture Corp., Ltd and the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients.

The annual event aims to help those less fortunate in society, and has raised US$774,225 to date. 

This year the organisers are hoping to raise $193,596 to build a nursery school in Núi Thành District, Quảng Nam Province and support the Fresh Water for Schools programme in 24 hamlets in Bến Tre Province.

Besides sponsorship from golfers, the tournament has also received support from large groups such as Suntory PepsiCo Việt Nam, Vietcombank, TaylorMade Adidas Golf Vietnam, Novaland Group, Vietnam Airlines and TBS Group. 

National Chess Tourney 2018 kicks off in Bắc Giang

Players compete in standard chess in the first day of the tournament. 

The National Chess Tournnament  2018 was launched yesterday in Northern Bắc Giang Province.

Fifty of the best players selected from domestic and international compeitions from 11 cities and provinces including Hà Nội, Hồ Chí Minh City, Bắc Giang, Bến Tre, Đồng Nai, Đà Nẵng, Thái Nguyên, Bình Định, Hải Phòng, Lâm Đồng and an Army team will compete this year.

Big names of domestic chess circle including Cao Sang of Lâm Đồng, Nguyễn Đức Hòa of Army, Hoàng Cảnh Huấn of Đà Nẵng will take part.

Players compete in two events: standard chess and blitz chess.  

A speaker of the organising board said this year there is strong competitors and promised a thrilling and exciting opening round.

“The competition helps evaluate the expertise of players, so we can add up the force to national team, and prepare for international tourneys in 2019,” the speaker said.

The tournament runs until August 26.

Vietnamese cyclist Nguyễn Thành Tâm from Tập Đoàn Lộc Trời won the the fifth stage of the 27th National Cycling Open – Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang Cup on Wednesday.

Tâm triumphed in the 110km race from Cao Lãnh City in Đồng Tháp Province to Cần Thơ City with a time of 2:53.18, followed by Lê Nguyệt Minh and Nguyễn Văn Bình.

Trịnh Đức Tâm from Tập Đoàn Lộc Trời still retained the yellow jersey with an overall time of 13:14.54, followed by Mai Nguyễn Hưng and Nguyễn Trường Tài from VUS Hồ Chí Minh City.

Mai Nguyễn Hưng from VUS Edgar Neito holds the green jersey with 89 points, followed by Trịnh Đức Tâm (81 points) and Nguyễn Trường Tài (61 points).

In the team rankings, VUS Hồ Chí Minh City continue to lead with the best overall time of 39:46.32, followed by Tập Đoàn Lộc Trời and Domesco Đồng Tháp.

On Thursday cyclists will complete on the sixth stage with 24 laps around Cần Thơ City.
