According to Resolution 795 about golf course development plan to 2020, HCM City will adjust five golf course plans including the golf course and services at Tan Son Nhat Airport.

Two golf courses will be adjusted and shutdown. The 160-hectare golf course at Tan Son Nhat Airport with hotel and entertainment complex will be replaced with hangars, cargo terminal and maintenance and repair areas.

The golf course at District 2 will be converted into an urban area while three other golf courses will be narrowed down.

In 2016, HMC City People’s Committee proposed to the Ministry of Planning and Investment to build a golf course in Long Hoa Commune, Can Gio District which will cover 146 hectares. According to the city Department of Planning and Architecture, besides the benefits, golf courses also bring negative points such as pollution in residential areas.

The department suggested using cultivated lands with low productivity to build golf courses as this is an expensive sport and need huge amounts of land. The business conditions must be clear to avoid wasting the land away.

In February, ADPi Engineering, a French company which specialises in airport architecture and engineering, proposed an expansion plan for Tan Son Nhat Airport by using the golf course which is located in the north of the airport while more passenger terminals should be built in the south of the airport to easily connect with the existing terminals.
